CA Autobody is a Tesla approved collision centre in Melbourne’s south east, at Chelsea Heights. Tesla approval is not a badge a workshop buys. It means meeting Tesla’s requirements for equipment, technician training and repair method, and being reviewed against them, then repairing every car to Tesla’s own published procedures using genuine Tesla parts.
That matters more on a Tesla than on most cars. The body mixes high strength steel with aluminium, so panels cannot simply be pulled straight the old way. The high voltage system has to be isolated before anyone opens a panel. The cameras and sensors behind Autopilot often need recalibrating once a windscreen, a bumper or a suspension component has moved. A workshop without the procedures and the gear can hand back a car that looks right and still is not right.
We handle everything from a kerbed arch and a cracked bumper through to major structural work, we deal with your insurer directly, and every repair carries our lifetime warranty on parts for as long as you own the car. Call 03 9772 7411 or send us the photos and we will tell you where you stand.
Tesla publishes repair procedures for every model it builds, down to which adhesive goes where and which fastener is single use. An approved centre commits to following them. In practice that comes down to four things.
We repair the full Tesla range sold in Australia, including Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X. Each has its own structural layout and its own procedure set, and we work to the one that matches your build, not a generic approach.
Send us photos or bring the car in. We look at the panels, the structure behind them and what is likely hiding underneath, then quote on that basis. Most of what makes a repair run late is damage nobody found at the start, so we would rather find it now.
Before any panel comes off, the high voltage system is shut down and isolated to Tesla’s procedure. Nobody touches the car until that is signed off.
Measuring comes first. The car is set up and measured against Tesla’s data so we know exactly what has moved. Sections that Tesla allows to be repaired are repaired. Sections Tesla says must be replaced are replaced, with the correct rivets, bonding and welds for that joint.
Tesla’s colours, particularly the reds and the deeper greys, are unforgiving. We match to the panel in front of us rather than to a code alone, and blend into adjacent panels so the repair does not announce itself in daylight. You can read more about how we approach spray painting and colour matching.
If a camera, a radar, a windscreen, a bumper or a suspension component has moved, the driver assistance systems are recalibrated before the car goes anywhere. Then it gets road tested.
Panel gaps, paint finish, torque settings, fault codes and a final clean. You get the car back washed, with the repair explained and the warranty in writing.
A Tesla body is not one material. Castings, extrusions and pressings in aluminium sit alongside high strength and ultra high strength steels, and each wants a different approach. Heat that straightens one will ruin another. Aluminium dust mixed into steel work causes corrosion down the track. This is why the aluminium bay is separate, why the tooling is not shared, and why a cheap repair on a Tesla tends to show up later as a rattle, a leak or a panel that will not sit flat.
The cameras that run Autopilot and the safety systems are mounted to the body. Move the body and you move the cameras. A bumper replacement, a windscreen, a guard, a mirror or anything that disturbs the suspension geometry can all put a camera out of its expected position. Recalibration is part of the repair, not an optional extra, and it is done before the car leaves us.
We are an approved repairer for AAMI, RACV and NRMA and we work with every major insurer. We will talk to the assessor, send the images and the report, and chase the authority so you are not stuck in the middle of it. Many policies let you nominate the repairer you want. If yours does, tell your insurer you want CA Autobody and we will take it from there. If you are not at fault, you can usually choose your repairer regardless, and we can help you with accident assistance, towing and the claim.
We offer free pickup and drop off valet in our service area, and replacement vehicles so you are not stranded. We serve Chelsea Heights and the surrounding bayside and peninsula suburbs, and you can see the full list on our areas we serve page.
Every repair carries a lifetime warranty on parts for as long as you own the vehicle. Our Google rating sits at 4.9 across more than 350 reviews, which is the part we are proudest of.
Repairs carried out by an approved centre, to Tesla’s procedures, with genuine Tesla parts, are intended to protect your factory warranty. If you have any doubt about a specific job, ask us and we will put it in writing.
Yes. Structural parts, panels, glass and fasteners all come through Tesla.
We follow Tesla’s procedures for isolating and handling the high voltage system, and for any pack related work that falls inside an approved centre’s scope. Anything beyond that scope goes to Tesla, and we will tell you up front if that is where your car is headed.
Often, yes. Where the paint is unbroken and the panel allows it, paintless dent removal keeps the factory finish and costs less than a respray.
It depends on the damage and on parts availability. We give you a time frame once the car has been assessed and stripped, and we tell you if that changes rather than letting you find out on pickup day.
Book if you can, on 03 9772 7411, so we can set aside the time to look at the car properly. If you have just had an accident, call us anyway and we will sort out where the car needs to go.
Tesla work sits alongside the rest of what we do: panel beating, spray painting, paintless dent removal, replacement vehicles and accident assistance. We are also an approved repairer for Zeekr, BYD and Lexus.
